From Winery to Overnight Pop-Up Market

From blueberry fields to a destination location, Cavallo Estate Winery in Lecanto, Florida is a 40-acre estate. Since opening in 2017, the winery has been rapidly expanding to accommodate a growing guest list that includes local residents and visitors from around the world. Their most recent expansions; a Certified Angus Beef steak house, a luxurious event barn, and 20 acres of lush fields with over 41,000 blueberry bushes for hosting events.

While adding new services is nothing new to Cavallo Estate Winery, expanding their business plan to include a “groceraunt” wasn’t something they anticipated.

The grocery stores are a mad-house, and quite frankly some people are acting a tad barbaric. We decided to offer essential products in a much more controlled, less chaotic environment

Cavallo Estate Chief Operating Officer

Cavallo Estate Winery opened Cavallo Farm & Market in
March 2020, offering essential grocery store items for purchase.

The market took off at lightning speed.

“We adhere by very strict sanitizing guidelines and procedures at the market and on all of our properties throughout the Estate,” says Cavallo Estate Winery Chef Alan Ingram. “We have hand-wash and sanitizing stations in all of our fields and we monitor and enforce a strict 6’ social distancing while in our fields and in the market.”

Cavallo Farm & Market continues to expand their product assortment for their customers, including produce, olive oils & balsamic vinegars and trendy boutique style market items, and newer offerings like hand cut steaks, chicken, eggs, deli meats, dairy items and pastas and sauces.

Owner Phil Bomhoff is thankful for the support that Sysco offered throughout the opening of the new market. “Sysco sales consultant Tyler Card proved to be a valuable asset while developing a strategy to bring in these essential products to our inventory. Thank you Sysco for being a valued partner and big key to our success.”
