Nashville “Hot Bacon” Pimiento Cheese Burger

Candied bacon and a side of fried green tomatoes give this Nashville "Hot Bacon" Burger a decidedly Southern touch.

If you serve burgers, you want to offer a variety of choices on your menu—with a choice of different cheeses, meats and interesting breads. Consider adding burgers with regional flair, such as this over-the-top Nashville “Hot Bacon” Pimiento burger, with distinctive ingredients and flavors of Southern foodways.

Ingredients

NASHVILLE HOT BACON

PIMIENTO CHEESE BURGER

Directions

FOR THE NASHVILLE HOT BACON

  1. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, cayenne, paprika and salt.
  2. Lay the bacon on a sheet pan lined with parchment and coat the bacon
    on one side with the hot mixture.
  3. Bake in a 360-degree oven until crispy and drain.

FOR THE BURGER

  1. Season the patty liberally with salt and pepper and cook in a skillet or on a flattop until it reaches desired doneness.
  2. Combine the mayonnaise, pimientos, cheddar and sriracha and let chill.
  3. Season the flour with salt and pepper.
  4. Dredge tomatoes in the flour, then in the beaten egg, then in the panko.
  5. Cook the breaded tomatoes in a 350-degree deep fryer for 1 to 2 minutes, turning once.

To build the burger

  1. Toast the bun. Then layer with the patty, pimiento cheese, hot bacon and pickles.
  2. Serve with the fried green tomatoes.
